EukRef Workshop

July 19, 2015 - July 24, 2015
University of British Columbia, 3529-6270 University Boulevard
Vancouver, British Columbia V6T1Z4 Canada

Our first workshop that will take place in Vancouver, Canada from July 19 to 25. This effort brings together taxonomists with expertise in individual lineages that span the eukaryotic tree of life to curate reference 18S rDNA sequences of these lineages by incorporating knowledge of phylogenetic, morphological, and/or environmental contextual data. During the workshop, the working group will integrate the curation efforts on individual eukaryotic groups into a biological data warehouse consisting of curated sequences, flexible taxonomy, and phylogenetic trees…

VII European Congress of Protistology

September 5, 2015 - September 10, 2015
Universidad de Sevilla Sevilla, Sevilla Spain + Google Map

Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Seville and to the VII European Congress of Protistology (VII ECOP), hosted by the Specialized Group of Protistology (Grupo Especializado de Protistología, GEP) of the Spanish Society of Microbiology. The European Congresses of Protistology (ECOP) are the most visible activities of the Federation of European Protistological Societies (FEPS), a nonprofit association of 12 national and cross-national protistological societies in Europe. The…

Exploring the genomic complexity and diversity of eukaryotes

October 17, 2015 - October 22, 2015
Hotel Eden Roc, Port Salvi 57
Sant Feliu de Guixols, Girona 17220 Spain

Unicellular eukaryotes comprise the overwhelming majority of eukaryotic diversity, pervading all branches of the eukaryotic tree of life. Recent sequencing efforts have significantly increased the number and diversity of unicellular eukaryotes for which genomic/cellular/proteomic data is available. Metagenomics, transcriptomics, single- cell genomics, and other 'omics' approaches are being applied to unravel the ecology, physiology, diversity and evolution of microbial eukaryotes and are shedding light on fundamental questions such as the origin of the eukaryotic cell, endosymbiosis, the origin of multicellularity…

A New Age of Discovery for Aquatic Microeukaryotes

January 26, 2016 - January 29, 2016
EMBL Heidelberg Heidelberg, Germany + Google Map

New discoveries about the unexpected lifestyles of aquatic microbial eukaryotes (protists) are advancing rapidly through the targeted exploration of cultured isolates and whole communities using molecular sequencing and imaging techniques in concert with evolutionary theory and geochemical analysis. Three major contributions to microeukaryote biology, ecology, and evolution that are catapulting the field forward are the Marine Microbial Eukaryote Transcriptome Sequencing Project (MMETSP), the Tara Oceans Expeditions, and the Malaspina Expedition. Although these three efforts focused on marine organisms, they have…

2016 Gordon Research Conference and Seminar on Marine Microbes

June 18, 2016 - June 24, 2016

Marine Microbes GRC The Evolution, Nature and Function of Microbial Interactions The theme of this Conference is "Evolution, nature and function of microbial interactions". Marine/aquatic microbes live in diverse environments and individual cells and communities face strong ecological and evolutionary pressures on different spatial and temporal scales. In such a complex world, microbial interactions critically drive the evolution of diverse life styles, genome structure, and cellular response that shape their ecology and impact on biogeochemical cycles. The Conference will present…

15th International Congress of Protistology

July 30 - August 4

This congress is organized every four years and always attracted the protistologists from various field of our discipline creating friendly and creative protistological atmosphere. The research on protists has long tradition in the Czech Republic and the first congress of the ICOP series took place in Prague in 1957. We are happy that after 60 years the congress will come back to the place where it started.
